YWAM DTS Lecture Topics
If you are wondering, “What are the different Lecture Phase topics on a YWAM DTS?” You’ve come to the right place!
Each week during the lecture phase of our DTS’s, we cover a different discipleship topic. This will set the stage for you to encounter God like never before, equipping you with the tools you need to follow Him with all of your heart.
While the list of lecture topics often vary from DTS to DTS (and YWAM base to YWAM base), there are certain topics that are taught in most YWAM locations.
Here’s a list of the most common YWAM DTS lecture topics:
- Hearing God’s Voice
- The Character and Nature of God
- The Father Heart of God
- Freedom and Deliverance
- Relationships
- Holy Spirit
- The Lordship of Jesus
- Fear of the Lord
Keep reading for a description of what is included in the teaching of these lecture topics. And hear some amazing testimonies from some of our staff and students of how each of these topics affected them personally.
Hearing God’s Voice
Hearing God’s Voice is typically one of the first weeks of the DTS. During this week, you’ll learn from the Bible that God speaks to His children, as well as some of the common ways He does so, which are often unique to the individual. You’ll also get to practice different ways of hearing His voice, which may be challenging, but very rewarding!
The Character and Nature of God
The Character and Nature of God is also typically taught near the beginning of the DTS. This is the week where you’ll learn more about God’s character and nature and the differences between them. You will get to know who He is and how He interacts with His children. This will provide a solid foundation for your walk with God as you discover what God is like, and how you can relate to Him in Truth.
The Father Heart of God
The Father Heart of God is a week where you’ll learn more about God’s role as your heavenly Father. On DTS, you will touch on all members of the Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. However, this is a week where you’ll dive deeper into this aspect of His character and experience Him as your Father.
Freedom and Deliverance
Our God is a God of freedom. No matter how you are coming to DTS, this week will enable you to have a fresh starting block in your faith journey. It is a time where God reveals His mighty power, even over darkness, allowing individuals to step out into newfound freedom in the Lord.
Relationships
In Relationships week, you’ll learn what the Bible says about healthy relationships, not just romantic ones. You’ll be taught how to love, honor and understand others better by learning one another’s love languages and applying them. Letting go of past hurts, granting forgiveness, and setting healthy boundaries are also topics typically covered in this week.
Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is not an ‘added extra’ to the Christian’s experience. The Holy Spirit is a week devoted to getting to know the Spirit on new levels, whatever your past experience has been. You’ll explore how present He is in the Word and in your life, and you’ll also dive into spiritual gifts – what they are and how they apply to you today.
The Lordship of Jesus
Lordship is touched on through other topics during several weeks, but during this week, you’ll really grasp onto what it means to follow Jesus not only as your Saviour but as your Lord. Here you’ll be given so many beautiful opportunities to gain intimacy by surrendering and letting Jesus be the Lord of your entire life.

“Before I did the Go Pacific DTS, I was expecting the Lord to do a lot of amazing things through me; and He did. However, I never expected Him to do so much work in my own heart. I drew a lot closer to God, experienced freedom, and I learned to believe in the ‘Jonas’ that He says I am. My relationship with God has become deeper and more serious, but at the same time it has become more fun and casual.”
Jonas Sørensen, 21, Denmark
“Did you know that according to WHO more than half the world does not have access to healthcare? After seeing those statistics first hand, while in the mission field, I was heartbroken, but I was not without hope. God used my SPHC team and me to meet the needs of many individuals both physically and spiritually, and He opened my eyes to the possibility of a career in healthcare. I now attend the University of Missouri and I am pursuing a degree in Public Health. I hope to one day work for the WHO and take on the challenge of reaching those without healthcare with God’s healing hands.”
Caroline Wilson, 21, Colorado, USA
“Before doing the Justice Movement stream I was so full of hatred and anger toward the perpetrators of human trafficking; completely lacking the love God has for them. But through the stream meetings and prayer it’s been a beautiful journey in which God has shown me how deep and vast His love is for ALL His children. God completely changed my view and I couldn’t be more thankful for this experience!”
Kara Spencer, 19, BC, Canada
“In the Kingdom Come stream, we really focused on what the kingdom of God is and how to live that out on earth. The most impactful aspect of this was walking out a miraculous lifestyle and being in an intimate relationship with God, where you can expect miracles to happen.”
Peter Seip, 25, Virginia, USA
“Through prayer and passion stream, I was able to see how prayer could be a place of so much intimacy with God. Finding my secret place with Him allowed me to fall in love again with His beauty and goodness. At the same time, God revealed to me the secrets of His heart- how He saw me and how He saw the world. It’s such a privilege to know that there’s a big God up there who trust us and partners with us to bring the kingdom of heaven down on to earth through our prayers!!! And never once did He let me down.”
Jesse Chua, 22, Singapore
“This is the craziest stream ever, not just doing fun activities, but the people I was with; they are wild as! Throughout the school, I’ve learned so much from the Bible that doing life with God and living my life on the edge is so much more interesting.”
Mun Hei, 21, Malaysia
“The Justice Movement stream really opened my eyes to what justice looks like through the eyes of God. Justice is more than making wrong right, it’s walking in mercy and humility. Justice is bringing light and life to orphans, widows, immigrants, and hope to anyone who is oppressed.”
Naomi Wilson, 18, AB, Canada
“Before I attended my DTS, I believed that justice was an act of revenge. I had hate toward the perpetrators and love toward the victims. Being apart of the Justice Movement Stream has shown me the Father’s heart of justice, which actually demonstrates the endless love of the Father for both the victim and the perpetrator. Through this I learned that we should also carry that same love and forgiveness in our hearts.”
Savannah Mantel,18, California, USA
“Last year I decided to seek after God wholeheartedly and applied for the Pilgrimage DTS. Going on this journey (physically and spiritually) has been life-changing! Instead of wandering on my own, I am now following the Almighty God. I have rediscovered a personal and intimate relationship with my Creator!”
Tim Stallard, 26, Switzerland
“Before coming to DTS I had a fixed view on what it meant to be a follower of God. Being on the Wild Heart Stream completely demolished every box I put God in and taught me to have reverence for the Lord. I learned that God doesn’t want a slave, he wants a best friend, a daughter and a relationship.”
Jessica Bryant, 19, England
