Can You Do A YWAM DTS Married?
Can You Do A YWAM DTS Married?
The decision to join YWAM can be a significant moment in your life. And if you’re married you will most likely want to share that moment with your husband or wife. If you are unsure if you can do a YWAM school as a married couple, you’ve come to the right place. We have the answer for you!
You can be involved in YWAM as a married couple. Every YWAM school, including the DTS, is open to married couples. YWAM Value 15 specifically mentions how important marriage is to YWAM.
Doing a YWAM school as I married couple can be one of the most transforming and positive seasons of your married life.
I can tell you from experience that doing a DTS with my wife was an incredibly rewarding season in our marriage as we were able to learn and grow together and see God work in and bless our marriage in more ways than we ever expected.
I wholeheartedly recommend it.
But don’t just take my word for it, check out Juliana and Douglas’s experience below and find out how they got on doing a YWAM DTS as a married couple.
Juliana and Douglas Lyra, Brazil
Doing a DTS was something we’ve dreamed about doing since the beginning of our relationship, so we’ve prayed and prepared for a long time.
We came to Pacific Reach with high expectations about this time and everything that God would do in our lives. I was expecting a deeply individual experience, but I couldn’t imagine how much our relationship would be strengthened by those personal character transformations.
Since day one, He’s spoken to us about a new season as individuals, but especially as a family. He reminded us of old promises and brought a lot of new ones! It was amazing to see how many speakers talked about the married life, children and the challenges of a family, even though that wasn’t their subject for the week, and we were the only married couple among 57 students.
Also, we had the privilege of processing all this new knowledge and revelation together, having each other’s support, the company of someone who brings the same culture, and the understanding of a true friend.
On our wedding day, the minister told us that our family would be powerful for the kingdom and we’ve seen a little bit of this being fulfilled during this time. We could see how our lives can inspire and impact others, from the younger single students around us to the couples during outreach, showing respect and honor, the way God planned a family to be.
DTS was a life-changing journey and one of the most special things to me was sharing all of it with the most important person to me, my best friend, my family, my home. And it was, definitely, the most beautiful, wonderful, and unbelievable adventure of these 6 years of marriage.
Take the next step in your marriage
As you can see doing a DTS alongside your husband or wife can be a life-changing season.

“Last year I decided to seek after God wholeheartedly and applied for the Pilgrimage DTS. Going on this journey (physically and spiritually) has been life-changing! Instead of wandering on my own, I am now following the Almighty God. I have rediscovered a personal and intimate relationship with my Creator!”
Tim Stallard, 26, Switzerland
“God showed me that true worship always comes out of a place of intimacy and revelation of what Jesus has done for me. I realized that this is were I want to be – sitting at His feet and pouring out my love and affection before Him, because He’s so worthy.”
Julianna Suter, 20, Switzerland
“Before joining the Medical Compassion stream, it was hard for me to understand what total surrender looked like in my life. I realize now that it is not my own compassion that compels me to love and care for others, but rather, it is the Father’s heart through me. I realize now that He is the true Savior, and I am simply a vessel chosen to carry His love and mercy to those hurting around me.”
Maeve Cooney, 18, Maryland, USA
“In the Kingdom Come stream, we really focused on what the kingdom of God is and how to live that out on earth. The most impactful aspect of this was walking out a miraculous lifestyle and being in an intimate relationship with God, where you can expect miracles to happen.”
Peter Seip, 25, Virginia, USA
DBS has been a fulfilled prayer for me. When I was home, I asked the Lord to bring me deeper into his word, and He put that desire on my heart. I knew I would come back to staff, and I thought I would dive into it on my own. I found myself not having the right tools needed to effectively study God’s word. Once DBS became an option, I went for it wholeheartedly. I have been enjoying my time, going deeper than I imagined. God has shown me new things, removed false perspectives of his word and brought me into a deeper understanding of who he is. I have been challenged in many ways during this course, helping me find my place in God’s kingdom. I’ve been able to build a strong foundation with the Word of God. Over all, the Lord created a new heart within me that desires to love, praise, share joy, and bring others into the family of God. I love this school for all that is provided from strong friendships to heart moving moments in small groups and the teachings. My life will never be the same after this school!
Alex Denney, 20, Washington
“Coming into DTS I already loved and had a heart for worship but over the course of the worship stream I discovered more and more who God was and what HE was and the impact worship has. Finishing DTS my love for God and my heart for worship is bigger than ever before and I found new and deeper intimacy with HIM.”
Andrea Wenger, 24, Switzerland
“SPHC was a transformational turning point in my faith walk where I learned to focus on others, serve, and honour others with my skills. Everything I learned in the course I put into practice to serve in the mission work that we were doing in Vanuatu. In changing me the Lord has changed my future and I walk with him and others in everything that I do.”
Paul Kerpel, 23, Alberta, Canada
“Coming into prayer and passion I had so much passion and desires but did not know how to bring them to the feet of the Lord in prayer. Going through the journey of growing in prayer and discipline I was able to walk out with a passion and desire to take all that was on my heart to the foot of the cross in prayer. I found a love for that intimate time of prayer with the Lord in a way I haven’t known before!”
Beza Sparkes, 22, Ethiopia/USA
“I decided to do a DBS because I wanted to know as much about the Bible as I could. And yes, I learned a lot about the Bible, the historical background and so on. But my biggest gain from the DBS was to learn and see the Bible come alive and active in my own life. The Bible used to be a boring book to me, with a bunch of unrelatable stories and letters. During DBS I got to know how to apply God’s Word to my life and how to be discipled, transformed and guided by it. My life changed so much through that and is still changing. I believe that’s what the Bible is for, to lead us closer to God and to help us to become more like Him.”
Silas Bauer, 22, Germany
“Prayer and Passion completely changed my outlook on the true power that prayer has. It had always been something that I knew worked and I did, but it was boring. Being a part of this stream gave me new understanding of how prayer is worship and fuels the power of heaven connecting with earth. It will move you to a place of praying out of your relationship with the Lord rather than giving him a list of things you want. You will gain a newfound intimacy with God as your prayer life is propelled.”
Tilly Logan, 21, Australia
